Q. Why was this site set up and what is the goal of the site?
A. This site was set up to collect, preserve, and distribute all types of humor. Much of the humor that is circulating around America is here today and gone tomorrow and we think thatâs a shame. Humor gets very little ârespectâ in todayâs world because people expect to get it for free, are unwilling to pay for it for the most part, and most people donât bother to collect it or archive it. Our goal is to give humor the ârespectâ that it deserves.
Q. Are there any types of humor that you donât carry?
A. We try and avoid pornographic/filthy/demeaning humor. Our editor Judith Reeves is our custodian of good taste. Most humor has some âbiteâ to it but we try and walk the fine line of being funny without being over the line.
Q. Why do you charge for some of your humor volumes?
A. The website took a lot of money and effort to put together. We charge a nominal sum for our published humor volumes ($5-9 for most collections) and any money we get from these sales, is put back into the site to expand it and make it better. We are non profit in nature and will publish our financial results at a future date. This site is a labor of loveânot a hard core profit making site. Our long term goal is to have all of the humor on the site be free for everybody.
Q. Do you accept humor collections?
A. Yes we do and weâd like to have yours. If you have an extensive humor collection, please contact Judith@StevesHumor.com to discuss how we can add your collection to our site.
Q. What is your policy on copyrights?
A. Most humor on the internet is non copyrightable. Jokes and short humor pieces are for the most part not able to be copyrighted. Cartoons are a different story and we have found that it is almost impossible to track back who the copyright owner is. We post cartoons under our free humor section and ask that you support the cartoonist by buying collections of his/her work. When we identify who owns the copyright of a cartoon, we contact them and ask permission to use their cartoon. We do not pay for cartoons but do offer to post a link to the cartoonists website. In the event that we have inadvertently violated someones copyright, please notify us and we will ask for permission, identify the owner and provide a link to their website, or remove the material when we are formally notified. Please email Steve@StevesHumor.com with any questions on copyright issues.
Q. Do you pay for submitted humor material?
A. No, however we will at your request, put your name as the source of the humor.
Q. What is the difference between your email download, printed version, or cd version of your humor volumes?
A. The printed versions are in full color and are high resolution and are mailed to you. The cd version is a digital pdf file and is also in high resolution. The email download is in a lower resolution (typically 72dpi) in order to keep the size of our pdf file reasonable. A typical humor volume contains 60 pages of humor and in pdf format this translates into a file size of 2 to 8 megabytes so that it will fit in your email box.
Copyright Policies:
StevesHumor.com respects copyrights. We believe the material we have assembled in this website and in our humor volumes is in the public domain. It is virtually impossible to copyright a joke, a one liner, an amateur photo, or even a funny story. If we have inadvertently infringed on your copyright, please notify us and we will do one of the following things: (1) put your name as the copyright owner next to the humor piece and provide a link to your website so that you can sell your material from your website or (2) notify us that you are the copyright holder and provide proof that you own the copyright and ask us to removed the piece and we will do so or (3) allow us to sell your commercial work through our shopping cart (we buy wholesale and sell retail). Cartoons are a special case because it is almost impossible to determine who the copyright holder is so we have placed these in a special category where we give them away for free with a warning that they are not to be used for commercial purposes. Again, we recommend that if you are a cartoonist and we have posted one of your cartoons, you let us continue to use the cartoon and we will sell your work through our online store. Email us for details. Steve@StevesHumor.com.
